JULY 2019
July Curriculum will be about Service and Kindness and how to help those around us.
July 7th- Ordinary Mary, Extraordinary Deed
We will start out the month by reading the story “Ordinary Mary, Extraordinary Deed.” After reading the book we will discuss the someone can make a huge difference in someone else life by being kind and offering a service. We will discuss how acts of kindness can make all the difference in someone’s day. We will then plan together as a class what service we can do for the community, we will pick between care packages, food drives or physical labor services. We will discuss this throughout the month and get the church involved as well.
July 14th- Summer Acts of Kindness Calendar
In this activity, the children will receive a list of things that they can individually do throughout the summer to service or help others. For example, “Sort toys and donate”.
We will discuss each activity and the students will pick one activity for each week and write it out in a calendar as a reminder for them.
July 21st- Service Flower Bouquet
During this activity, students will make kindness flowers using paper, paint and assorted art supplies. While the flower dry, students will write and act of kindness or a service of their choice on a piece of paper, they then will attach it to each flower. Students will give each flower to different people in their life. Each act is a promise to do something special for the person that they choose to give the flower to .
July 28th- Service for the Community
To finish of the monthly theme, we will prepare and do the service that the class agreed on the first day. The goal is to do something for the community, whether it is a food drive, care packages for children in hospitals, care packages for the homeless, etc. This class will be spent putting together what the children decided on the first week of class.
